The Dallas Mavericks were the 4th seed in the Western Conference in February but have since been in free fall. Despite adding Kyrie Irving, injury to Luka Doncic and their lack of cohesion have seen the Mavericks fall to 11th place and in real danger of missing the play-in tournament. As such, Doncic is being linked with moves away, and Bleacher Report named an interesting potential destination.

“The New York Knicks have a pile of future draft picks,” Andy Bailey wrote for Bleacher Report. “And while RJ Barrett’s value has certainly gone down this season, Immanuel Quickley’s has risen, and the Knicks could try to bring Luka to the game’s biggest media market with a package like the ones it offered the Jazz for Donovan Mitchell.

“New York could offer multiple draft picks, Barrett, Quickley, and Quentin Grimes, to the Mavericks. And with the Knicks, Luka would be reunited with the second option that he went to the conference finals with, Brunson. Plus, he’d have a dynamic rim runner and protector in Mitchell Robinson, assuming Dallas wouldn’t insist on him being in the deal too.”

There have been many deals between the New York Knicks and the Dallas Mavericks in recent times, but it would be wild if they were able to pull off a move for Luka Doncic. Doncic is under contract till 2026, at least, so the Mavs would be in no hurry to trade him, but missing the playoffs would be a huge blow for them and potentially lead to massive unhappiness for Doncic.

Luka Doncic Has Been Linked With Trades Since He Admitted To Being Frustrated Recently

Franchises can have bad seasons from time to time, but Luka Doncic is a perennial MVP candidate. For a player on the trajectory that he is, missing the playoffs even once is a huge problem. And he’s not been himself lately, admitting in an interview after a demoralizing loss that he’s not having fun on the court as he used to anymore.

Since then, trade speculation has been rife around Luka. The Denver Nuggets and teaming up with Nikola Jokic has been suggested, as has a potential move to the New Orleans Pelicans. Doncic isn’t one to run from the grind, and he’s young enough to get over the disappointment if they do miss the postseason, but the Dallas Mavericks need to put a good team around Doncic fast.
