The Los Angeles Lakers are finally above .500 this season but head coach Darvin Ham knows they are in no position to take their foot off the pedal.

Following their impressive win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ham sent a stern message to his team.

“Just [want] us to remain tenacious, remain highly competitive, remain together,” Ham said, via Dave McMenamin from ESPN. “Just know that we can’t be fat and happy. There are more things that we have to conquer.”

The job is far from being done and the players would know that, but Ham wanted to make sure to put that message out there. The Lakers have just been a different team after the trade deadline and that win over the Timberwolves was their fifth in the last six games.

They are now 39-38 on the season and are just a game behind the sixth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers who are 41-38. The Lakers have two relatively easier games against the Houston Rockets and the Utah Jazz coming up, so they could be level with the Clippers when these sides meet on the 5th of April. An automatic berth in the playoffs could be on the line in that game.

LeBron James And Anthony Davis Gave Updates On Their Status

The Lakers have had LeBron James and Anthony Davis miss a lot of time yet again this season, with James playing 50 games while Davis has played 51. LeBron finally returned from his latest foot injury last week but hasn’t quite looked the same so far. He admitted his rhythm is not quite there yet, although he did say he is getting better.

Davis, meanwhile, twisted his ankle against the Timberwolves and gave everyone an almighty scare by staying on the floor for a while. He played through the pain barrier and stated after the game that he will play against the Rockets. Their supporting cast has done a fine job so far but it’s now down to the two superstars to ensure the Lakers have a strong finish to this regular season.
