The NBA’s dunk contest finally lived up to expectations this year.
A former member of the Los Angeles Lakers in Mac McClung stole the show to win the contest and now, a current Laker Lonnie Walker IV says he is considering participating next year.
“I was considering this year,” Walker said. “But I’m highly considering next year to join the dunk contest.”

As the host hilariously pointed out, when you have the nickname Skywalker, you probably should participate in the dunk contest at some point. Walker is a supreme athlete and a vicious dunker, who could certainly make some waves should he participate next year. He has somewhat been out of the rotation for the Lakers in recent weeks but has had a solid season, averaging 12.0 PPG, 2.0 RPG, and 1.2 APG.
Walker was here to support his college team, the Miami Hurricanes, who had reached the Final Four for the first time in their history. It would unfortunately be as far as they would go, as the Uconn Huskies beat them 72-59.
Mac McClung Wants Zion Williamson To Participate In The Dunk Contest
As for who the defending champion would want to see in next year’s contest, McClung would love it if Zion Williamson takes part. Fans have been hoping for years that Zion would be in the dunk contest and he did say he is giving it heavy consideration.
Zion added that if he were to ever participate, it would probably be next year and it would be incredible if he does. The dunk contest has been somewhat of an afterthought in the last couple of years but if Williamson is in next year, then it might well be the most hyped event. The NBA needs its stars to take part and if Williamson does and shines, then maybe others would be inclined to participate in the coming years.
