There was a time not too long back when the Los Angeles Lakers seemed like a lost cause, but they are now closing in on the sixth seed in the Western Conference.

With the Los Angeles Clippers losing to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, the Lakers now find themselves just a game behind their rivals and their fans are delighted.

“Lakers traded Russ and now about to pass the Clippers in the standings.” a fan found it quite funny that the Lakers could soon pass the Clippers after trading Russell Westbrook.

“It’s time to get greedy. Lakers fans should be rooting for the Pelicans to beat the Clippers so we have a better shot at avoiding the play-in.” fans sure were rooting for the Pelicans and now the team has a great shot at avoiding the play-in.

“Lakers win their next two games we can get Lakers vs. Clippers for the 6th seed.” If the Lakers win their next two games, then the two teams will have the same record entering their crucial matchup on Wednesday.

“Lakers finally beating the Clippers on the 5th to tie for the 6 seed after losing to them in every game since our title gonna hit differently.” this lakers fan thinks they will finally end their losing streak against the Clippers in that game.

“Clippers are 8-9 with Westbrook. The Lakers are 14-8 since the trade deadline. Clippers are only a game ahead of the Lakers.” another Lakers fan pointed to how the fortunes have changed for the teams after trading for Westbrook.

The Clippers have now fallen to 41-38 and are clinging on to the final automatic playoff spot. The Pelicans are 0.5 games behind them while the Lakers are a game behind. While it is easy to point the finger at Russell Westbrook, it is the injury to Paul George that has really derailed this team.

George isn’t coming back in this regular season either, so they have to figure out a way to win without him. While their destiny is still in their own hands, it is the same now for the Lakers. If they win their remaining five games, then the Lakers are guaranteed to be at least the sixth seed, and that’s all they could have asked for.

Darvin Ham Had A Warning For The Lakers

Following their win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham had a message for his team. He made it clear they cannot afford to ease up in this home stretch and that they still had work ahead of them.

The team now has even more motivation to go out there and win every game, as it would secure their spot in the playoffs. No one would have thought before the trade deadline that the Lakers would be in this position toward the end of the season and now, they have to make sure they don’t let this chance slip away.
