Jaylen Brown Sparks Speculation After Concerning Reaction To Celtics Crowd

Celtics star Jaylen Brown has been publicly supportive of his organization ever since he arrived. But if you have listened to Jaylen recently, you might get the sense he is reconsidering his loyalties.

Despite being up for an extension his summer, Brown has been shady about committing to a long-term future in Boston, and his reaction to a standing ovation from the home-town fans has only added fuel to the fire.

“Jaylen fans gave you a pretty loud ovation in the fourth quarter coming out. In light of your recent comments about your future where, did that mean a little more?”

Jaylen: “I just come out every day and do my job. That’s all I’m focused on.”

Nothing conclusive can be drawn from this short statement, but it’s enough for Celtics fans to wonder if Brown has already checked out on the franchise.

All-NBA Selection Could Have Major Implications For Jaylen’s Future With The Celtics

The heart of the Jaylen Brown rumors stems from ongoing negotiations between him and the Celtics, who are looking to re-sign him to a long-term extension.

But depending on how the All-NBA teams shake up this year, it might be better for Jaylen to wait for free agency.

“If Jaylen makes All-NBA, he can guarantee himself $280 million this summer, and he is highly incentivized to extend this summer. If Jaylen doesn’t make All-NBA, I would say he is highly incentivized not to sign it,” said Brian Windhorst. “If he doesn’t sign it, it has nothing to do with his love of playing for the Celtics or anywhere else. He will be an unrestricted free agent in 2024, and that is not what you want a star player to be. So if you’re the Celtics, even though you may have to be locked into paying Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, but you don’t want Brown to reach unrestricted free agency…”

As Boston’s second-best player, Jaylen Brown has been huge to the team’s success over the past few years, and his partnership with Tatum was supposed to carry the Celtics for years.

Now, nobody can be sure what they will look like in 2-3 years. But until Jaylen makes a decision about his long-term future, all anyone can do is guess and speculate where his head is at.
