There was genuinely a time when Ben Simmons was considered one of the brightest young stars in the NBA. But that reputation is long gone, and now most fans in the league do not treat Simmons with the respect he once earned from them.

Ben Simmons’ brightest years came when he donned the jersey of the Philadelphia 76ers for the first few years of his career. But even then, there were genuine concerns about him lasting from his scouting report.

Anyway, speaking of his time with the 76ers, it was recently revealed that Simmons got put in his place by Washington Wizards superstar Bradley Beal. The incident took place when Philly was playing against the Wizards, and Simmons was getting deliberately fouled.

Via Heavy Sports:

“The first guy that started the Hack-a-Ben process was Scott Brooks with Washington. They’re playing Philly a few years ago and Philly’s up by around 20. Brooks starts putting Simmons on the line in the fourth quarter, and the game is getting closer as Ben is stepping to the line and bricking more and more foul shots. So finally Bradley Beal had to foul him. Usually you don’t have your best player fouling, but at that point he did.

When that happened, Ben and Beal had this sort of animated conversation. Ben said, ‘I’m tired of you motherf*****s fouling me on purpose, man. I’m going to step up here and knock these two down. Five thousand dollars says I will.’ To which Beal replied, ‘You wanna make it 20?’ And then he went up and bricked one. I don’t think he said another word.”

Beal’s $20,000 bet made sure to make Simmons realize to never bite more than you can chew. After all, Simmons is just a 59.1% shooter for his career from the charity stripe.

What’s Next For Ben Simmons In The NBA?

When Ben Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, he was expected to form a great Big 3 with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Unfortunately, Simmons failed to do so and only made things worse for the franchise.

Now, with Durant and Irving gone from the team, the Nets want to trade Simmons elsewhere as his averages have dropped beyond expectations. So much so that the Nets tried to find a trade for Simmons around the league but couldn’t find a deal.
