Throughout the last offseason, the NBA saw Kyrie Irving linked with a reunion with LeBron James on the Los Angeles Lakers. Irving was entering the final season of his contract, and the expectation was that Brooklyn would trade him. But that never happened, and he joined the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline instead. However, there has been no extension signed yet, which means Kyrie could very well be on the move again in the offseason.
LeBron James is a master of making other players like him and getting them to team up with him. He was the main piece on the Heatles, and he was also instrumental in bringing Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers. James is known for subtly influencing what players his teams can get, and his flattering words about Kyrie during All-Star Weekend caught the eye of some analysts.

“It’s always good to see him. I’m very proud of him. Very proud of the man that he has become in his life right now.”
There have been many reports that the Lakers can land Kyrie Irving as a free agent over the summer, although there hasn’t been much that is concrete on that front. But after LeBron’s praise after the All-Star Game, Vince Carter and Brian Windhorst seem to think they know what’s going on.
Vince Carter And Brian Windhorst Think LeBron James Is Trying To Get Kyrie Irving To The Lakers
As with everything he does, these comments from LeBron James were scrutinized quite a bit by the media. Brian Windhorst and Vince Carter were on hand to analyze the situation on the show Get Up, and they seem to think it means that Irving could be headed to Los Angeles.
“This is absolutely a free agent maneuver, LeBron picking him, LeBron praising him,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said.
“It’s still way too early how it’s going to work out in Dallas [for Irving]. When the microphones are on it’s a good idea to make it sound like he wants to be his best friend again.”
“Plant that seed right now,” said Vince Carter. “More than likely we probably will see Kyrie in a Laker uniform because of this.”
The Los Angeles Lakers just acquired D’Angelo Russell, who will be cheaper and is younger than Kyrie Irving. It remains to be seen whether they would maybe want to give him a shot if things work out. And Kyrie Irving’s not certain to leave the Mavericks either. If he and Luka Doncic can make a deep playoff run, he could easily end up staying.
