Michael Jordan’s career in the NBA didn’t go in one linear line like most players in the league. Instead, Jordan retired from the league on three separate occasions, which somewhat diminished the impact of Mike being in the league until he was 40 years old.

Prior to his third and final retirement from the NBA, the 6x NBA champion donned the jersey of the Washington Wizards. Although Jordan’s best years were certainly behind him, and his time with the Wizards didn’t help the team in winning championships, as an individual player, Michael Jordan was still great. A full comparison between 37-year-old LeBron James and 38-year-old MJ will help you understand it better.

He gave a few memorable moments while playing for the Wizards as well. But speaking of Jordan’s skills as a player at the time, he still managed to play huge minutes throughout the season.

Michael Jordan Averaged 37.0 Minutes Per Game In His Last Season In The NBA

As a player spends more time in the league, they gradually slow down and ultimately retire. So often times when players who once used to dominate the league tend to play fewer minutes to protect their bodies. But even when Jordan was 40, he averaged 37.0 minutes per game, and that’s not all.

Apart from playing heavy minutes, Mike featured in all 82 games of the season for the organization. Although he came off the bench in 15 games, it’s still a commendable achievement by him.

To put things into perspective, if Jordan averaged 37.0 minutes per game in the 2022-23 NBA season, he would have led the league in MPG. Moreover, playing 82 games at 40 years old is not something that every player can do, but Jordan did play all 82 games in a season nine times in his career. So it’s no surprise he achieved that feat.

To understand that accomplishment better, LeBron James and Kevin Durant have played 82 games just once in their careers, while Stephen Curry is yet to do that.

Stats like these continue to prove how amazing of a player Jordan was, even during the final two years of his long and phenomenal career in the NBA.
