Over the last few months, the Los Angeles Lakers have been trying their best to build a roster to avoid having a repeat of their 2021-22 NBA season. They missed both the playoffs and the play-in tournament last season, which was frankly embarrassing for a team featuring LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook.

Anyway, the Lakers played their first NBA preseason game recently. Fans were excited to see the newly formed roster of the Lakers in action and expected the team to register a win.

However, similar to the previous season, the Lakers started their preseason with a defeat. The Purple and Gold were outplayed by the Sacramento Kings by 30 points in a 105-75 defeat, despite having a lead at halftime.

James Worthy Believes Fans Don’t Need To Panic

Considering it was a preseason game, the Lakers starters didn’t play a lot of minutes, which resulted in the Purple and Gold getting outplayed in the second half of the matchup.

Upon seeing this performance from the Lakers, the former star of the franchise, James Worthy, had a surprisingly calm reaction to it.

“The energy was good. And I think if anything you’re looking for, the effort. Looking to see if the guys have learned anything from the little bit of time that they had practicing. … Overall, the coaches got to see what they wanted to see in very limited minutes and so you could give this first game and you can say hey they didn’t get a lot of points in the pain, they didn’t get a lot of assists that they normally would like to get. But overall, it’s the first game you gotta shake off a little dust, and I thought overall for the first unit, it was ok.”

The Lakers have made a lot of changes to their roster this offseason. Obviously, fans want to see the team win games, but it may take them some time to get adjusted to each other’s playing styles. Hopefully, coach Darvin Ham and the rest of the players can quickly figure this out and avoid going down the same path they went on the previous season.
