Steve Kerr has a lot of great stories to tell, especially about his time as a player. He lived a lot of memorable moments during his active days, even becoming the last player to win a championship for four consecutive seasons after three-peating with the Chicago Bulls and then winning another championship with the San Antonio Spurs.

Even before his best day came, Kerr was doing crazy stuff on the court and found an interesting way to boost his confidence ahead of games. While Michael Jordan looked to go against the top stars in the league to show that he was better than anybody, Kerr had a similar but different strategy to work on his game and feel better about himself.

During a recent interview on ‘Real Ones’ podcast with Logan Murdock and former NBA player Raja Bell, Kerr revealed that he used to play scrimmage games against the media, which he used in his favor.

Steve Kerr Reveals He Boosted His Confidence By Playing Pickup Games Against Media Members

Kerr went on a lengthy explanation of his duels with media members, recalling that he used these scrimmages to boost his confidence, even claiming that he would have dominated one of his interviewers back in the day.

“I gotta take it one step further, Raja, because when I played early in my career, we had two assistant coaches and that was it, you know? So you didn’t have anybody even to rebound, so practice would end–I’m not kidding, we would actually scrimmage with the media. I’m not kidding. And Logan, I would’ve busted your a**, man. You would have done so much for my confidence… The guy who just interviewed me is now guarding me. We literally used to have pick up games. It would be like the four or five guys who weren’t in the rotation in Cleveland in the old Richfield Coliseum, in the fifth floor, our practice… You know, the guy who just interviewed me is now guarding me.”

That really helped Kerr, as he developed huge confidence for the rest of his career. Proof of that is when he said he had to bail out Michael Jordan before hitting a crucial shot to win a championship. It all began with his scrimmages with the media, and Kerr remembers those moments with joy.
