Even though many people expected this to happen, Robert Sarver didn’t wait too long before announcing he’s stepping down as the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury’s majority owner. The controversial figure was banned for one year by the NBA last week and after all the pressure from current and former players, fans and even sponsors, Sarver is looking for buyers for his team.

In a new recent statement, Sarver announced he’s selling both teams while thanking the NBA for giving him this ‘free time’ to focus on what’s really important, as well as his journey to becoming a better person.

As a man of faith, I believe in atonement and the path to forgiveness. I expected that the commissioner’s one-year suspension would provide the time for me to focus, make amends and remove my personal controversy from the teams that I and so many fans love.

But in our current unforgiving climate, it has become painfully clear that that is no longer possible – that whatever good I have done, or could still do, is outweighed by things I have said in the past. For those reasons, I am beginning the process of seeking buyers for the Suns and Mercury.

I do not want to be a distraction to these two teams and the fine people who work so hard to bring the joy and excitement of basketball to fans around the world. I want what’s best for these two organizations, the players, the employees, the fans, the community, my fellow owners, the NBA and the WNBA. This is the best course of action for everyone.

NBA Fans Are Really Happy With Robert Saver Selling Both Phoenix Suns And Phoenix Mercury

As one of the hottest topics around the league in recent days, many fans had something to say about this, with all of them celebrating that Sarver is out, although others said he shouldn’t get any profit from these teams.

The league should take away both from him so he doesn’t make a profit

The punishment should be to giveaway the team. Make the buyer pay and donate that money or something. Sarver shouldn't see any of it. Imagine what $2,000,000,000+ would do for charities.

I’m buying. No soft players when it’s my team. Which means D Book gone

BIG DUB for the city of Phoenix and the Suns.

Man cost Steve Nash & D’Antoni a ring with his cheap tactics.

The Phoenix Suns have been one of the best teams in the NBA in the past two seasons, which is why it was shocking to learn how things worked within the organization when they had incredible teams like the ones led by Steve Nash or the most recent squad that made it to the NBA Finals in 2021 and recorded the league-best record in 2022.

Hopefully, this new chapter brings a lot of great things to the Suns and especially the people that worked behind the curtains and do everything so that their fans and players can enjoy a terrific experience.
