Stephen Curry Out Indefinitely After Controversial Marcus Smart Play Causes Foot Injury

The Golden State Warriors have been dealt a massive blow in their loss against the Boston Celtics. Not only did they lose the game, but it has been reported that they will be losing star point guard Steph Curry indefinitely after Marcus Smart’s loose ball play left him with a foot injury.

Smart’s play was extremely controversial and has divided fan opinion on whether it was a basketball play or a dirty move. Regardless of the intention, the result of the same has sidelined Curry ahead of the final stretch of the regular season.

The Warriors not releasing a timeline for Curry makes sense as they will have to take a call on when they need Curry to come back. If the team can keep their hold on the three seed through their next run of fixtures, Curry may just be benched up until the start of the Playoffs. Warriors fans have dodged a bullet with this injury not being similar to what happened to LeBron James last season against the Atlanta Hawks.

Warriors star Stephen Curry has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in left foot that will sideline him indefinitely, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. X-rays on the foot returned negative Wednesday night – meaning no fracture or major damage, a sigh of relief.

This will have a major impact on the Warriors’ preparation for the post-season. The full-strength lineup of this team has not played together at all this season, with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green being out periodically through the year. Just as they got Draymond back, Curry now will spend time on the sidelines.

This might also be a blessing in disguise for the Warriors and give Steph time to rest up before their playoff run starts. Whether GSW tries to work James Wiseman into the rotation now will be interesting to see as well.

All eyes will be on the Warriors’ offensive capabilities to see if Curry’s loss can be offset by the others around him. Thompson and Jordan Poole have been inconsistent and streaky, but they will need to be the ones to take up responsibility in Curry’s absence. Hopefully, the Warriors don’t slide down the standings, especially with the teams below them in Dallas and Utah winning games consistently.
