Since leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, Alex Caruso has only gotten better playing for the Chicago Bulls.

The 29-year-old had a career year in terms of playing elite defense. So much so that he was named part of the NBA’s All-Defensive first team for the season. It’s certainly a huge accolade for the Bulls guard.

Speaking of getting selected for the All-Defensive first team, Alex Caruso has become the first white guard since 1980 to get that honor. The last white guard who achieved it was Don Buse of the Phoenix Suns. This was brought to our attention by u/Teffec_P on Reddit.

Caruso averaged 5.6 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 2.9 APG, 1.5 SPG, and 0.7 BPG in 67 games for the Chicago Bulls. Unfortunately, fans won’t get to see Carushow’s magic in the playoffs as the Bulls were eliminated in the play-in tournament by the Miami Heat.

Alex Caruso On Comparisons With Austin Reaves

Alex Caruso gained popularity in the NBA community for his flashy dunks and great defensive plays during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers.

After Caruso’s departure in 2021, the Lakers have found Austin Reaves. Reaves is another white player who has become a fan favorite while playing alongside LeBron James and co.

Evidently, many fans have compared the two players. But are the two really that similar? Well, Caruso certainly doesn’t think so.

“There’s not a ton in common, and that’s what’s funny about it,” Caruso said. “He’s a guy who’s basically been in the NBA his whole career, I was a guy who wasn’t drafted, went to the G-League for a year, played in three Summer Leagues to try and get on a team, and still, even then, [was] grinding my way to get minutes and carving a role out.

In addition, Caruso is a defensive-minded guard as compared to Reaves, who makes his bread and butter by dominating on the offensive end of the floor.

All things considered, they really do not have anything in common apart from their skin tone.
