Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been the Boston Celtics’ dynamic duo for a while now, but these two have never been able to win the championship. After last season, the hopes were renewed, but they aren’t in the best position right now.

Tatum has been the number one option for his team since Kyrie Irving left, with Brown taking a sidekick role. However, the conversation about Brown tying or surpassing Tatum in terms of quality is getting bigger in recent days, and Doris Burke thinks they’re at the same level now.

“I think Jaylen Brown has closed the gap a little bit in terms of the difference level between he and Jayson Tatum,” the veteran analyst said. “Jaylen Brown still has to take a step in terms of his ability to not turn the ball over and Joe Mazzulla talked about it.”

The Boston Celtics are going through a bad moment right now after losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 5 of their second-round series. When everybody thought they would take the 3-2 lead, Joel Embiid, James Harden and co. told otherwise.

This situation left fans fuming, and many of them booed the team during their painful defeat. Now, they have the job to go to Philadelphia, steal Game 6 and try to seal the deal at home in a potential Game 7.

Burke added that the Celtics were in this position last year against the Milwaukee Bucks, and they won Game 6 at Fiserv Forum to then win the series in seven games. They have gone through some rough moments and being down 3-2 isn’t new for them.

The Sixers must be careful with that, but the Celtics should also know that they’re facing a team with huge expectations and huge pressure. It’s not smart to relax against any of these teams, and the rest of the series will show fans why.

Jaylen Brown Has Improved His Level Every Season

Jaylen Brown has always embraced his role as the second-best player on this team, but things can change during this playoff run. Jayson Tatum has been underwhelming in some games, and JB has taken care of the team

Perhaps an exit from Boston can allow him to show the fans that he can lead a team to compete for big things. He’s been linked with a move away from the Celtics in the last few months, and perhaps an early playoff exit can accelerate that process.

In the 2023 NBA playoffs, Brown averages 25.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. As for Tatum, he’s posted 26.9 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists with the C’s.
