Brandon Miller Likely To Solidify Himself As The No. 2 Pick In The 2023 Draft

Brandon Miller is expected to be the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by teams even beyond the selecting Charlotte Hornets.

The 2023 NBA Draft is less than 10 days away, as fans prepare to see which directions their teams will be going in one of the most anticipated draft classes in recent years. Victor Wembanyama is expected to go No. 1 to the San Antonio Spurs, but who will land with the Charlotte Hornets at No. 2?

Jonathan Givony of ESPN has revealed that most teams have Brandon Miller ahead of Scoot Henderson in their draft board, agreeing with the Hornets’ assessment to use their pick on drafting Miller.

“Most NBA teams we’ve spoken with have [Brandon Miller] over [Scoot Henderson ] on their draft board, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if that is the direction the Hornets go on draft night.”

The Hornets already have LaMelo Ball to be their ball-dominant point guard, so ignoring Miller’s 6’9″ frame and unique skillset would be another draft mistake that people can mock Charlotte for. Henderson and LaMelo could be a generational backcourt duo, but there’s no questioning Miller may be the safer pick.

Brandon Miller Overcoming Offcourt Woes

A few months ago, many people wondered if Miller had hurt his draft stock severely after being involved in a murder case where he handed off the murder weapon to the perpetrator of the crime prior to it being committed. That is an incredibly harrowing thing to be involved in, but it doesn’t seem to have dropped him in draft stock.

Instead, Miller has risen from being the No. 3 projected pick to No. 2, even though it could be due to the fit after Charlotte received the second pick. Sometimes, the fit is overrated. We have seen so many teams in NBA history regret making picks according to fit even when more talented players were on the board.

There’s no reason for the Hornets to cast a smokescreen to get their guy as nobody is picking ahead of them, except the Spurs who are definitely going to take Wembanyama. Miller averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds this season for Alabama in the NCAA while Henderson put up 17.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.6 assists for the G League Ignite.
