Young Alabama prospect Brandon Miller is already neck-deep in drama after his involvement in a shooting at his school that left a fellow classmate dead. And while he was not guilty of the murder itself, it still left many wondering about his character and maturity level heading into the NBA Draft.
To make matters even worse, Miller isn’t doing so great in team interviews, either. According to the latest update by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Miller’s draft status isn’t great overall and his mentality/approach could be part of the reason why Scoot Henderson has passed him up on many draft boards.
“Every team is looking for this type of player,” said Givony on Zach Lowe’s podcast. “Six-nine, big guard, can handle the ball. Pass out of pick and roll. Make shots off the dribble. Defend multiple positions. Rebound. That’s what people are looking for. At the same time, he’s not in great shape right now. So I don’t know how great his workout is going to be. His interviews have not been great, I’ve been told. Both publicly and privately with NBA teams.”

Miller can be the kind of wing player that so many teams have been looking for, and his natural talent is undeniable as a two-way swingman who can score and dribble.
Really, where Miller lands will ultimately depend on the Charlotte Hornets. With the second pick in the draft, they just missed out on Victor Wembanyama but they will have their choice between Henderson, Miller, or another high-upside player. Depending on how they prioritize fit over talent, they can approach the draft in different ways.
After that, the Trail Blazers will be next in line and it would be criminal for them to pass on Miller if he’s available. But with Damian Lillard putting all the pressure on the front office, Portland may not end up keeping the pick at all.
Will Brandon Miller Become An NBA All-Star?
Miller has the game to be a high-impact player right away for any team, but it may be some time before he’s able to grow and mature his game to a state where he wants it to be.
Either way, in a draft dominated by Victor Wembanyama, there are storylines brewing at other places in the lottery and it’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
