Brandon Miller Sends A Strong Message To Fans That Booed Him On Draft Night

Brandon Miller was booed on draft night, with Charlotte Hornets fans none too pleased that their team drafted him No. 2 overall. This has led to a crisp response from Miller.

The Charlotte Hornets have a history of making the wrong choices in the NBA Draft and the one they made in 2023 doesn’t have fans feeling too confident, either.

Charlotte chose Brandon Miller over Scoot Henderson as the No. 2 overall pick, and not everyone was happy with it. The pick was booed by Hornets fans, and now Miller himself has given his doubters a sharp response.

“To the ones that are booing, I’m here to let you know we’re going to get a lot of wins this year,” Miller said in response. “Definitely going to try to hold up the big trophy at the end. You know, just gonna have a lot of winners around me.”

It seems like the 20-year-old Miller has a lot of confidence in his ability, although what he’s outlining is easier said than done. The Charlotte Hornets haven’t been out of the first round of the playoffs since the 2001-02 season and surely one rookie can’t make that much of a difference. In any case, this says a lot about his mentality.

Miller played one season in Alabama and averaged 18.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting an excellent 38.4% from three-point range. His upside is huge, but it’s hard to say if he will be able to translate that game to the NBA just yet. Having LaMelo Ball as a teammate might help, though, and if he can back it up, this could end up being one of the most incredible moments in basketball history.

Brandon Miller Said He Can See The Charlotte Hornets Making It To The NBA Finals Next Season

Someone saying they’ll try to win the championship is one thing, that is a sign of knowing what the goal is and having confidence. But Miller might be setting himself up for some ridicule with some of his other statements, like when he said he can see the Hornets in the Finals next season.

“Making all the winning plays [is how I can impact the team], do whatever the team needs me to do. I see the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA Finals next year. Hopefully, we will get to that,” Miller told Ashley Stroehlein of WCNC.

That is a bold claim to make, but perhaps he doesn’t quite yet understand the level of competition he is about to face. There are established superstars in the NBA who will be vying for their rings, and it’s borderline impossible to see the Hornets make it past just about any of them as of next season.
