Dennis Rodman has told some outrageous stories over the years, but his latest revelation might top them all. Appearing on Neon’s livestream, the Hall of Famer claimed that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un actually wants to come to America.
“Oh my god, I’m always asked about that. What the hell, man? The guy’s cool to me, right? But you know what? I’ve always said to everybody in the world, I said, guess what, if that guy came over here to America, he really wants to come over here, man. I said great.”
“I went to his palace. I went to his island. I went to his ski resort. I went every place over in North Korea. Hey man, the guy’s cool to me.”

It’s the kind of statement only Rodman could make with a straight face. The eccentric five-time NBA champion has maintained one of the strangest friendships in sports and political history since first visiting North Korea in 2013. What started as a basketball exhibition trip eventually turned into a personal bond with Kim, a self-professed Chicago Bulls fan who admired the Michael Jordan–era dynasty.
According to Rodman, that admiration shifted to him once Jordan reportedly declined an invitation to visit the country. From there, Rodman became a recurring guest of the reclusive leader, visiting his estates, private islands, and ski resorts, even riding in his helicopters and being chauffeured around the capital.
Rodman has said before that his relationship with Kim gave him insight into the leader that few outsiders, let alone Americans, have ever had. In 2013, Rodman described how Kim threw him a stadium-sized party with 140,000 people in attendance, personally leading applause for his guest.
The latest comment about Kim wanting to come to America adds a new twist to their saga, especially considering the geopolitical tensions that have defined U.S.–North Korea relations for decades.
In 2018, Kim did step onto the international stage with historic meetings with then-President Donald Trump in Singapore and later in Vietnam. Though the talks ultimately fizzled, they showed Kim’s willingness to at least explore international diplomacy.
With Trump now back in power, Rodman’s remark about Kim wanting to visit the United States feels wild but, in today’s unpredictable political climate, not entirely impossible. Still, given North Korea’s track record, such a scenario remains highly unlikely.
Rodman’s friendship with Kim has often drawn controversy. While some dismiss it as nothing more than a publicity stunt, others have suggested Rodman has provided rare informal communication between the two countries. Rodman himself has always brushed off the criticism, insisting that his bond with Kim is personal, not political.
For now, Kim Jong Un remains in Pyongyang, and Rodman remains one of his most unusual global advocates. Whether Kim ever sets foot in America is another story, but thanks to Dennis Rodman, the possibility has been floated in the strangest of forums: a late-night livestream with a Twitch personality.
