Stephen Curry has been on another planet this season when it comes to his performances. He has been a steady MVP candidate while helping the Warriors achieve one of the best records in the NBA in an incredible start to the season.

And one of the greatest coaches of all time admitted that there was little he could do to stop him.

After the Spurs’ game against the Golden State Warriors, Gregg Popovich explained his team’s defensive effort against Stephen Curry. In a deliberately confusing statement, Popovich said that they were able to contain Steph until Curry decided to take the game over and do whatever he wanted.

“I thought we did well until he decided to do what he wanted to do, and then he did what he wanted to do way better than anything we wanted to do. That’s who he is.”

Despite Curry’s heroics, the Spurs were able to get the win, containing the rest of his teammates during the closing stages of the game. It was just the 4th loss of the Warriors’ season, but what is cause for concern is that it was their second loss of the week, after losing to the Phoenix Suns in the first of their two games that week.

It isn’t quite time to ring alarm bells yet, as the Warriors are still in a good place right now. They still have the best record in the NBA right now, along with the Phoenix Suns. On top of that, they expect former All-Star Klay Thompson to return this month and give them yet another excellent offensive option.

Steph Curry has raised hopes for fans about Klay’s return when he said that it’s a great sign that Klay has not forgotten how to shoot. If he can recreate his play from prior to the injury, the Warriors will be one of the biggest favorites to win the NBA championship this season.
