Ja Morant is facing a lengthy suspension after his second gun scandal. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar has a big lesson to learn, and he’ll have plenty of time to do so after the league made its decision.

Morant will be suspended for the first 25 games of the 2023-24 NBA season, coming back in December to defend the Grizzlies. If this wasn’t bad enough, the player could lose up to $50 million due to all these situations, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

“This has been extraordinarily penal to Ja [Morant] from a financial standpoint,” Windhorst said on First Take earlier today. “I will guesstimate that he is looking at at least $50 million in losses, because he is going to face the no pay of these 25 games, and no pay for the eight games that he missed last year…”

Windhorst adds that these situations prevented Morant from becoming an All-NBA last season, which cost him $40 million in bonuses. He says that Ja could be closer to $60 than $50 million, but the price for his antics is really high.

Morant is one of the most exciting players in the NBA, a future face of the league, and the fact that he couldn’t act right after the first incident let everybody know that he’s not ready to take on a big responsibility in the league.

Added to the suspension, he’ll have to meet certain conditions the NBA wants him to in order to restore him to the competition.

Nike Won’t Cut Ties With Ja Morant After Suspension

In the wake of the suspension, the player released a statement vowing to do better and become a proper role model for the kids who look up to him. Nike also shared a statement supporting Ja and celebrating that he’s taking care of his well-being after these incidents.

The Memphis Grizzlies went from being a hard-working, fun team to watch to a complete disaster in a matter of two seasons. Morant has a big responsibility in that situation, and he wants to do better moving forward. Hopefully, he can get things back on track again and help his team fulfill the potential they’ve shown in the past two seasons.
