The NBA finally announced Ja Morant’s suspension to start the 2023-24 season. The Memphis Grizzlies superstar was first suspended by the team from all its activities, and now the league has given a stronger suspension.
The league’s front office has handed Morant a 25-game suspension to start next season. The player released a statement reacting to the sanction, apologizing to the people he let down and vowing to do better again. The NBPA also released a statement but criticizing the decision the NBA made.
“Ja has expressed his remorse and accepted responsibility for his actions and we support him unequivocally as he does whatever is necessary to represent himself, our players and our league in the best possible light. As to the discipline imposed, which keeps him off the court until December and requires some unstated conditions to be met before he can return, we believe it’s excessive and inappropriate for a number of reasons, including the facts involved in the particular incident and that it is not fair and consistent with past discipline in our league. We will explore with Ja all options and necessary steps.”

Clearly, they weren’t happy with the decision, differing from the player’s reaction to the 25 games he will be inactive. Morant knows he made a big mistake again, and if he was walking around carrying toy guns, he should have known better.
The Grizzlies suspended him the first time for flashing a gun during a live stream on Instagram. A couple of months later, he starred in the exact same incident, raising a lot of eyebrows around the league.
Things could get worse for Ja, but the NBA decided to give him a 25-game suspension, although not everybody is happy with this decision.
Ja Morant Released A Statement In The Wake Of His 25-Game Suspension
After the league made the announcement, reactions didn’t take long to arrive. NBA fans reacted in different ways, and Ja shared a statement to address this issue, vowing to act better in the future.
This situation could have been avoided after the first incident and the subsequent suspension. Ja will have to work very hard now to earn the trust of the league and the fans who’ve been with him from the beginning. It won’t be easy, but he’s ready to work his way back to the league after the suspension is over.
