The NBA has finally announced Ja Morant’s punishment for being caught with a gun for the second time in three months. After serving an eight-game suspension in March, his offseason gun incident on IG Live has brought the wrath of the league office.
Morant will be suspended for 25 games to start the 2023-24 season, with conditions being placed on his eventual return to the court.

The league also announced a statement about the same.

Ja averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 8.1 assists this season, being named to the All-Star team. He was in contention for All-NBA until his March suspension curtailed his chances of getting the necessary votes. This suspension will ensure Morant won’t be eligible for All-NBA next season, with a new 65-games-played limit being placed on stars.
Will Ja Morant’s Career Be Derailed By This Incident?
Everyone that saw Morant flash the gun in a Denver nightclub in March knew that the punishment the league gave him was quite light and a clear chance to reform himself before the consequences get severe. Given how soon he had another gun incident after the first one, the league had to come down hard to send a message.
Morant missing All-NBA this season cost him millions of dollars. This suspension guarantees Morant will not be eligible to make the team in 2023-24 as well, so he is likely going to remain ineligible for a highly lucrative supermax contract with the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies’ guard is a clear star on the court, but he has clearly a lot of room to grow and mature off the court.
