We are inching closer to the official start of free agency, with the market expected to open for negotiations on Friday at 6 PM. Plenty of valuable names are on the market that teams will be looking to entice away from their current destinations.

One of the key names teams are eyeing this summer is Nuggets’ champion Bruce Brown, who is expected to fetch $12.7 million or more. Despite interest from around the league, Jamal Murray is confident that Brown will return to the franchise this summer.

“We always talk about once we win, everybody will eat, and everybody gets taken care of. We’re starting to see that with Bruce [Brown] and his extension so congrats to him.”

The way Murray congratulated Brown in the clip made it seem like his extension is already in place and it’s just a matter of time before the Nuggets announce it. The 26-year-old implied he wanted to come back after the team clinched the NBA Finals.

The Lakers and Mavericks were the leading contenders in the Brown race, using their $12.7 million non-tax mid-level exception to entice the man who averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in a championship-winning season.

Should Brown Explore The Market?

Bruce Brown had a bad free agent experience in 2022, as teams were quick to overlook him after a rough end to his time with the Brooklyn Nets. The best he could get was the tax MLE, which was under $7 million last season. He’s definitely getting a pay raise this season, but should he see what other teams give him before extending with the Nuggets?

There aren’t any cap space teams that are heavily interested in making a run at Brown, with the leading options both having a cap on how much they can offer him. If he can’t make more than the NTPMLE this summer, it may be in his best interests to just stay with the Nuggets on a long-term contract and become a key role-player in this budding dynasty.
