After jawing and yapping all season long, fans were eager to see Dillon Brooks put in his place this season, and that’s exactly what the Lakers did in round one. Besides pure domination on the offensive end, the Purple and Gold were great defensively as well and effectively played Dillon Brooks off the floor.

Sadly for Brooks and the Grizzlies, their downfall would come in 6 games against the Lakers, but it’s what came after that is going viral on Twitter today. As Brooks was walking back to the hotel after the loss, fans had a good time trolling him on the street as he was walking by.

It’s easy to feel bad for Brooks in this situation, but it’s important to remember that he is partly to blame for all this backlash. For a Grizzlies team that was notorious for over-confidence and trash talk, Brooks was perhaps the loudest player of them all.

In this series against the Lakers, he specifically called out LeBron and challenged his game by calling him ‘old.’

“I don’t care, he’s old. I was waiting for that, I was expecting him to do that Game 4 or Game 5. He wanted to say something when I got my 4th foul, he didn’t say nothing early on. But you know, I poke bears. I don’t respect no one until they come in and give me 40. So, I pride myself on defense and taking on any challenge.”

What’s Next For Brooks After Embarrassing Playoff Showing?

Dillon has never been a great shooter or scorer, but his perimeter defense provides a major boost for the Grizz, and it’s part of what made them so successful throughout the regular season.

But after Dillon was exposed and shut down against the Lakers, there are questions about whether or not he’ll be back in a Grizzlies jersey.

“They’ve tried to move on from Dillon Brooks already… I don’t know if Dillon Brooks is on this team after this series,” an ESPN analyst said on The Hoop Collective. “They threw four picks at the Nets trying to get Mikal Bridges. They really weren’t able to get the Raptors in serious conversations, but they would have given up a few picks to get OG Anunoby. They’ve tried to move on from Dillon Brooks already.”

As a free agent this summer, Brooks will no doubt be seeking to secure the bag, and he will go to whichever team offers him the most money.

But after the series we just watched, Dillon may not get the kind of contract offer he’s been hoping for…
