LaMelo Ball is one of the future stars in the NBA right now. He was hyped as a basketball prodigy by his father, LaVar Ball, but LaMelo actually lived up to his talent. Many were wondering where his career was headed when he dropped out of high school to play in Lithuania. In 2018, during an exhibition game, LaMelo slapped a Lithuanian player in the face and caused a massive brawl.

Given how heavily NBA teams scrutinize the characters of the players that they draft, something like this could’ve hurt Ball. It didn’t because he proved that his talent was legitimate with a season in New Zealand before declaring and being drafted No. 3 overall.

He’s already been named to an All-Star team and is hoping to enjoy a run of good health after missing most of last season to lead the Hornets back to the playoffs after a seven-year drought. He signed a mega five-year, $260 million extension to stay with the franchise this summer.

LaVar Ball Stepped In To Teach A Lesson To His Son

The Ball family was shooting a reality show that chronicled the journey of all three sons to the NBA. Lonzo was the eldest and made it into the NBA as the No. 2 pick in 2017. LaMelo had to mature a lot before he was in draft conversations, something LaVar Ball stressed to him after this incident on the court.

“You’re a selfish motherf***er. You need to get tapped on your head, I told your ass we cannot f***ing respond like that. You of all people, but you let me down. You f**k my brand, you f**k my game, and we don’t win cause your ass was like ‘let’s go, what you wanna do?’ I told you you’re getting on my wrong last nerve because you’re doing the same sh*t over and over again. I thought you had my back. You don’t care about anyone on the team, you don’t care about winning.”

LaVar went on to blame LaMelo for the loss and was quite critical of his son. The treatment left LaMelo quite shocked and upset. Given his reputation now as a pass-first player, it’s clear LaMelo took the lesson his father taught him to heart and stopped being a selfish player.

LaMelo Ball Sees A Former Teammate Beat Up On Team USA

During the FIBA World Cup, Lithuania pulled off the upset of the tournament by beating Team USA in a second-round matchup. While the USA had already qualified for the quarterfinals, the loss was embarrassing given it was handed to them by a Lithuanian team without Domantas Sabonis. LaMelo’s eyes caught a former teammate on the court.

LaMelo also found a picture of him and the mystery teammate on the floor together, showing that the player still wears No. 33.

The player’s name is Tomas Dimsa, who has had a journeyman career through European basketball so far. He and LaMelo were teammates on BC Prienai in the Lithuanian basketball league. Dimsa had a strong performance against Team USA, scoring 11 points on 4/5 shooting in the game.
