LaMelo Ball Explains Why He Signed Five-Year, $260 Million Extension With Hornets

Point guard LaMelo Ball is one of the rising stars in the NBA, and there is no doubt that he is the face of the Charlotte Hornets. Many believe that he has superstar potential due to his 6'8" build and playmaking ability.

This offseason, LaMelo Ball signed a five-year, $260 million extension with the Charlotte Hornets. This clearly shows his commitment to the franchise, and recently, LaMelo Ball explained why he decided to remain with the team.

“Where we at, I feel like we are all growing together,” Ball said per The Canadian Press. “I think it’s just a great position, and I think we are all going the right way now. All my years here, I’ve had a good time. Life wasn’t bad. The basketball aspect, if that’s not really going well, then you want to just live your life and have fun. You want to be living well, and in Charlotte, I’m doing that. It all just felt like a great choice.”

Sometimes, the best move for a player is just to remain in a good situation while making a good amount of money. That is exactly what LaMelo Ball has done, and it'll be interesting to see how far he can lead the Hornets next year.

This past season, LaMelo Ball averaged 23.3 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 8.4 APG for the Charlotte Hornets while shooting 37.6% from 3PT range. He clearly has the talent to be a special player, and next year will be crucial for him as he seeks to establish himself among the best players in the league.

LaMelo Ball Wants To Win MVP Next Season

When speaking to Mitch Kupchak in a press conference, LaMelo Ball revealed that he will be pushing to win MVP next season. That is certainly good to hear, and we'll see just how good Ball is next season.

Mitch Kupchak: "Which one are you gonna get?"

LaMelo Ball: "Shooting for [NBA] First Team for sure."

Mitch Kupchak: "How about MVP?"

LaMelo Ball: "Shooting for that too."

Hopefully, we see LaMelo Ball have a productive season. Though MVP might be unrealistic given the amount of talent that is in the league right now, it is fair for LaMelo Ball to try and gun for an All-NBA team.
