As a 6x All-Star, 5x All-NBA player, and the reigning NBA MVP, Joel Embiid is undoubtedly one of the best players in the game today. While his talent is unmatched when it comes to big men, he doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to winning in the postseason.

In fact, Embiid has yet to reach the Conference Finals in his career despite having some All-Star talent by his side. At 29 years old, Joel still has time to capture a championship before it’s all said and done but the pressure is on for him to prove he can do it and former league point guard Gilbert Arenas wants to see him bring his play up to a completely new level.

“Joel Embiid does enough individually for us not to look at him. What you’re doing with the team, with what you are equipped with, is actually not enough… Let me take Giannis’ energy and give it to Embiid… he’s averaging 40. So why the f–k are you happy with 32 if I give him someone else’s energy that he doesn’t have and say ‘what would he be.’ He was disrespected about [Nikola Jokic] and he gave the man 50. That’s what it took… Why the f*ck are you not doing that every f**king game?”

With Embiid, he seems to have moments where he can flip the switch and bring his best. We saw a lot of that last season, especially during his final matchup with Nikola Jokic, which likely won him the MVP.

Sadly, Embiid has a tendency to flame out in the playoffs, and it is part of the reason why his team falls flat every single year. For Embiid to get past these doubts, he’s going to have to make a deep run, and he’s determined to do just that.

“I just want to win a championship, whatever it takes. I don’t know where that’s going to be, whether it’s in Philly or somewhere else…It’s not easy, but every single day I work towards it,” said Embiid.

So as the offseason plays out and the Sixers attempt to find a deal for James Harden, Embiid is quietly waiting for his chance to shine, and it can’t come soon enough.
