Lil Wayne is one of the most successful musicians of his era but he’s also a massive NBA fan. He’s been seen courtside at games repeatedly, even multiple times this season. However, Wayne went on social media to complain about receiving poor treatment from the Lakers while attending a recent game. He believes it was because of his prior comments on Anthony Davis.

“Wow! Got treated like shit at the Laker game just now but I figured they’d do me that sooner or later either bc of what I said about AD or simply because they don’t fwm which I been got that vibe from them as well, so all good I get it. F**k em. It isn’t what it isn’t. I’m used to it.”

Wayne is a very well-known name within NBA spaces, even appearing on talk shows like Undisputed with Skip Bayless to share his takes on the game. He’s had disagreements with the likes of Shaquille O’Neal and has made bold statements such as Ja Morant being the next face of the NBA. He even had a mini-beef with Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks after they eliminated his Suns in the 2022 playoffs, but that feud was later settled.

Wayne’s voice has power within the NBA community, so it’s not surprising to see him feel like the Lakers are treating him badly because of prior comments about AD.

What Did Lil Wayne Say About Anthony Davis?

In November 2023, Wayne appeared on Undisputed with Skip Bayless and gave a very controversial take on the Lakers. He claimed that the team needs to get rid of Davis to be successful, going off on a pretty animated rant about the center.

“If the Lakers wanna be a championship team, in the future as well, they gotta get rid of him. You don’t wanna say anything about his health or he’s soft or anything like that… so, whatever it is, it’s AD. That’s his make-up and he’s shown us that. The only time we haven’t been shown that is in New Orleans. He shows us those spurts every other night, but it used to be every night. Now he’s just sitting down we don’t know what what works. What are we doing? Get rid of him and get some good players.”

Davis is averaging 25.1 points, 12.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 blocks this season. He’s arguably one of the best defenders in the NBA right now and has been incredibly reliable. He might not be good enough to carry the Lakers alone, but many would argue he’s been more important to the franchise than LeBron James this season purely because of defense.

Wayne’s comments were controversial at the time, but many people had floated that idea in the open. It seems ludicrous right now given how well he’s played this season, but the Lakers’ organization could resent Wayne for making those comments.
