“Dillon Brooks has been fined $25,000 for recklessly making contact with Indiana Pacers center Daniel Theis in the groin area, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.”

Dillon Brooks Fined

Brooks has developed a reputation for making aggressive plays on the court, but a groin shot in preseason is nuts. It’s clear that Brooks is doubling down on his new role as ‘Dillon The Villian’ in the NBA.

Brooks was mocked heavily by fans and players for his actions last season, feuding with several top players in the NBA, such as LeBron James, Donovan Mitchell, and Draymond Green. His antics led to the Grizzlies not bringing him back this season, but he was valuable enough for the Rockets to pay him more than what he received last season to perform the same role in Houston.

NBA Fan Thinks The Fine Is Excessive

We don’t often see the league hand down $25,000 fines for preseason actions. With the reputation that Brooks has built for himself, it’s unsurprising that the league wants to send a message to Brooks as early as possible. Many fans are delighted at Brooks’ misfortune, but others think this is excessive for a preseason incident.

$25k for one foul seems pretty excessive

Fans were shocked that Brooks managed to get himself fined before the season even started.

how do you get fined in preseason

— Status (@GodlyRep) October 12, 2023

Fans joked about how his career earnings will all be wasted on paying league fines for his career.

More fans joked about Brooks testing his ‘ballhandling’ after the groin shot.

Fans were still confused as to why this led to such a heavy fine from the NBA.

Fined 25k for what?????

More fans mocked Brooks for managing to get fined four minutes into the start of preseason.

Brooks doesn’t really have an incentive to alter his behavior. What he is doing ultimately made him valuable enough to not only be considered an All-Defense selection but also earn $80 million over four years with the Rockets.

Tracy McGrady Thinks Dillon Brooks’ Antics Got Him Paid $80 Million

No matter the cost to his reputation on the court, Brooks ensured he gets paid after the Grizzlies cut ties with him this summer, receiving $80 million from the Rockets. His antics on LeBron James received a lot of fan hatred, but Tracy McGrady believes that fearlessness is why he received the contract he did in the summer.

“Now some of the ‘antics’ I could do without, but I’m talking about from a competitive standpoint: if he doesn’t do some of the things that he did last year going at LeBron… we’re not talking about Dillon Brooks, bro. He’s just another player that’s in the NBA that’s on somebody’s roster that people are overlooking. He’s made a name for himself. Whether it’s good or bad people are talking about him and in essence, that man just signed an $80 million dollar contract! So whatever he did, it worked for him.”

Brooks averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists last season. He will hope to lead the Rockets on a playoff push this season, being entitled to a bonus if the team manages to make it through. It’ll be nearly impossible, given the competitive Western Conference this season, but the Rockets shouldn’t be written off.
