Dillon Brooks earned a lot of enemies around the league when he ruthlessly attacked LeBron James following Game 2 of the Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Lakers first-round series.
Everybody was mad at him over those comments, and Austin Reaves recently had some big words for Brooks, blasting him for disrespecting one of the greatest basketball players of all time.
“For him to say that to someone whose main goal is to win, and who is arguably the greatest player ever, I thought it was very, like, laughable,” Reaves told The Athletic after Game 1 vs. Golden State Warriors. “I took it as, ‘You can’t be serious. You look like a fool.’
“But hey, people talk. …It wasn’t really spoken on amongst the group, but it was really just kind of a known thing. We’re gonna do what we’ve got to do to handle business.”
Reaves admits that this situation inspired the team to beat the Grizzlies, make Brooks pay, and advance to the second round of the postseason for the first time since 2020.
In the end, they finished the job, sending Brooks home and finishing the Grizzlies’ tumultuous 2022-23 NBA season. The Lakers, meanwhile, are fighting for a spot in the Western Conference Finals, hoping to see Reaves do good things against the Golden State Warriors.
Dillon Brooks’ Antics Might Have Cost Him His Spot On The Grizzlies
On the other hand, Brooks’ attitude all season long may have hurt his chances to be a reliable piece for the Memphis Grizzlies. The team reportedly informed him that he won’t return next year ‘under any circumstances,’ which sparked many reactions around the league.
Now Brooks is laughing stock around the league, with some like Shaquille O’Neal saying he’ll dominate in Taiwan. Things have changed a lot for Dillon, who is now trying to find a new team in the league.
The Grizzlies are reportedly upset with this info being leaked, but there’s nothing they can do now.
