Michael Jordan’s relationship with Nike has been incredibly successful since it began in the 1980s. And things went so well, that MJ was able to build the Jordan brand within Nike, with it bringing in over $5 billion in sales in 2022.

Every NBA fan knows about Michael Jordan‘s involvement in the success of the Jordan brand. He is the brand. But Rip Hamilton’s kids hilariously learned this fact a bit later than other people.

“My favorite moment with Michael off the court, it’s funny, because when my kids was born they used to always see me walking around the house with the Brand Jordan logo,” Rip Hamilton shared on Instagram. “And they always used to say, ‘Dad like, why are you always wearing that logo?’ And they was too young to understand who was who. They didn’t see Michael Jordan play at all.

“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s me.’ And they was like, ‘Oh, ok, can you give me some gear?’ So I called Brand Jordan, I sent them some gear, and they was proud to be wearing dad’s clothes. And they never met Michael yet.

“So Michael end up coming around the corner, and he had the Brand Jordan clothes on, well, his clothes on. And they was like, ‘Hey, MJ, you got my dad’s stuff on.’ And he looked at me and he said, ‘Rip Imma let you live in this moment right there.’ So that was probably one of my most memorable moments with Michael off the court. He allowed me to live and to be my kids’ hero.”

Michael Jordan was under no obligation to keep up the cover for Rip Hamilton, but his doing it is a cool gesture on his part. As for Hamilton’s children, it would be interesting to find out what their reactions were when they finally learned the truth.
