The Memphis Grizzlies have been the talk of the town this week after reports surfaced suggesting that they’ll part ways with Dillon Brooks this offseason.

Everybody has reacted to the news, but the whole backlash didn’t sit well with a lot of people. Besides the people like Stephen Jackson and Kendrick Perkins blasting the Grizzlies, the team is reportedly unhappy with the reports.

“I hate speculating about somebody else’s sources, but I can tell you the Grizzlies did not want the messaging out there of basically. ‘Dillon Brooks is the scapegoat, we’re dumping Dillon Brooks and everything’s gonna be fine.’”

Tim MacMahon of ESPN explains that the Grizzlies weren’t that sure about Brooks being part of their future, and they knew this decision was going to be made, they simply didn’t want to spark all the reactions this situation sparked.

The reporter adds that the Grizzlies tried to move him away while getting players like Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby in return. The Grizzlies sensed that having Brooks around would eventually fire back, which is exactly what happened during the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

Now, he’s on his way out, and the market for him could be interesting, as Brooks is already drawing interest around the association.

JJ Redick Blasts NBA Media For Scapegoating Dillon Brooks

Meanwhile, other people are supporting the player, or at least criticizing the way some are approaching this situation. JJ Redick recently called out the NBA media for constantly scapegoating Brooks.

The former player explained that even if the Grizzlies decided to move on from Brooks, this wasn’t the right way to portray him or cover this whole thing

On the other end, former players like Shaquille O’Neal are trolling Brooks for running his mouth and then getting embarrassed by the Los Angeles Lakers. This is a complex moment for Brooks, even though he stated he won’t change his attitude even if he returned to the Grizzlies. Time will tell where he’ll play next, but right now, the Grizzlies aren’t an option for him.
