Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins shared his two cents on the Memphis Grizzlies parting ways with Dillon Brooks.

“Oh, I see what’s going on in Memphis,” Perkins wrote on Twitter. “They’re making Dillon Brooks the fall guy. BS! That free culture is who they’ve been for the last 3 years. Wasn’t a problem until they got embarrassed. Leadership needs some of that smoke too! Carry on…”

Perkins’ thoughts suggest that it all went south for Memphis after they ran into a losing rut at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers in the series. The latter handed them a 4-2 trouncing leading to a first-round playoff exit.

Earlier this evening, NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news saying that the Grizzlies would not re-sign Brooks under any circumstances causing quite a stir on social media.

Per The Athletic, “After his tumultuous end to the season, Brooks was told about the Grizzlies‘ decision to move on in exit meetings with team officials in recent days, those sources said. Memphis and Brooks discussed in exit meetings that it’s best for both sides to have a fresh start, sources added.

“Memphis did make contract extension offers to Brooks early in the season, which were rejected and led to the end of talks, sources said.”

It appears that Brooks was the first domino to fall, and Perkins believes that the leadership needs some lessons too. Only time will tell if there are more changes ringing in.

Kendrick Perkins Had Warned Dillon Brooks After He Took Shots At LeBron James

Brooks was relentless during the playoff series against the Lakers, especially against LeBron James. In addition to calling him old, he also rolled out a “poke the bear” comment, to which the Lakers superstar had the last laugh. And Perkins had warned Brooks of the consequences

“I love it, but he didn’t poke the bear. LeBron James is from Akron, Ohio, OK?” Perkins said on ESPN’s NBA Today. “LeBron James is from the mud. LeBron James got pride. He poured honey on him. That bear is coming, that bear is LeBron James. He didn’t poke the bear, he poured honey on himself. LeBron James is on his way.”

The series eventually ended sourly for Brooks, who was at the receiving end of the lashing from NBA fans and former players. Though on his part, he maintained that he wasn’t regretting his trash-talk to the four-time NBA champion.

Now, Brooks will spend his summer hoping to get picked by one of the 29 other teams in the NBA. But given his bad boy image, it remains to be seen how that story pans out.
