JJ Redick called out the media for their extensive scapegoating of former Memphis Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks.

Speaking on First Take, the former NBA star minced no words in calling the media “agenda-driven.” This came on the back of the Memphis Grizzlies’ deciding to not bring him back for the next season.

“I’d be willing to bet that that language didn’t come from the Grizzlies. This is the problem, all right? It’s an agenda-driven media. I have a problem with it,” Redick said.

“The reality is that Dillon Brooks hurts them offensively. If you want to go in a different direction, that’s fine! That is fine. Do the antics…..did that hurt them? I don’t know. I don’t know if that hurt them. There are other problems in roster construction, guys being out; there are other issues besides Dillon Brooks and him poking a bear.”

Redick maintained his stance that his issue was not with the way Brooks’ was shown the door, but the language that was followed by the media, which just magnified the guard’s bad boy image.

He pointed out in the tweet that NBA insider Shams Charania used to break the news of Brooks and the Grizzlies parting ways. “Whoever put that language and approved that language in the tweet? Yeah, that person wants to make Dillon Brooks the scapegoat. The reality is, the Grizzlies have other problems besides Dillon Brooks.”

Brooks has been in the headlines for some time now, and the media’s portrayal, safe to say, isn’t making everyone happy.

Dillon Brooks’ Agent Takes A Direct Shot At Shams Charania

Prior to Redick, it was Dillon Brooks‘ agent, Mike George who called out Charania on Twitter accusing him of attacking players.

“The leader of spreading false news and attacking players. Why any player in the league talks to this guy blows my mind. #weirdo,” George tweeted in response to Redick’s comments.

One of the NBA analysts who had a stern reaction to Brooks’ exit was Kendrick Perkins. “Oh, I see what’s going on in Memphis,” he wrote on Twitter. “They’re making Dillon Brooks the fall guy. BS! That free culture is who they’ve been for the last three years. Wasn’t a problem until they got embarrassed. Leadership needs some of that smoke too! Carry on…”

For now, the future is uncertain for Brooks, and while he surely will generate some interest in the months to come from a few teams, only time will tell if bonafide title contenders will want him in their ranks.
