Gilbert Arenas’ 17-Year-Old Son ‘Cooked’ Naz Reid During Recent Scrimmage
Gilbert Arenas' son Alijah is a highly rated prospect. The young high school player is touted to be a big name in the 2026 NBA Draft. According to Gilbert, the young man held his own and destroyed an NBA player, telling the story of how his son recounted getting easy buckets while playing against reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Naz Reid.
"This is a true story. I'm watching a video. This is when he went to play with KD and them. He said 'Man, there was a dude in a blue shirt. Oh my god, I was mopping his a**. I don't even know why he was out there'."
"I asked whether he scored a couple of buckets. He said 'No, every time he guarded me, I gave his a** that work. He was mad and he ended up leaving'. I was like 'Damn, that's crazy'. I looked at the video and it was Naz Reid. I was like 'Wait a minute, he's a defensive player'. He was like 'Nah, he's trash."
If this is true, it is hard to tell whether it's a great look for Alijah Arenas or a terrible look for Naz Reid. Reid is one of the better defensive players in the NBA, with the Timberwolves trusting him to be one of the leaders of their defensive unit. So for Alijah to, allegedly, make easy work of his defense and frustrate him enough to walk out of the gym, is a big deal.
Perhaps this is a sign of things to come with Alijah Arenas in the NBA. He is currently playing at Chatsworth High School in California and is a top prospect in his position in the state and in the region as well. He ranks first in his position as a shooting guard and third in the state and in the region.
Will Alijah Arenas Be A Top Player In The NBA?
Alijah is definitely privileged, being the son of a great NBA player, as he gets the opportunity to test his mettle and sharpen his game by playing against other NBA players. But if he is able to play as well as he says he is against current NBA stars, then it would suggest that he will find a lot of success in the NBA.
Alijah is one of the many young second-generation basketball prospects along with Dylan Harper and Kiyan Anthony, who are being touted as future successes in the league. And if he continues to develop at this rate, there should be very little doubt about his chances of finding success in the NBA.
Arenas currently has collegiate offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Fresno State, and UCLA. As of now, there is no word on which program he will commit to. And he could receive even more offers between now and the commitment deadline.
It appears as though the NBA will be receiving a star-level player in two years, as Arenas looks to carry forward the legacy of his father upon entering the NBA.
