The absence of Joel Embiid among the Eastern Conference starters for the upcoming 2023 All-Star Game was a big shock for a lot of fans who considered him a lock to play in the big game in Salt Lake City next month.

Embiid has been playing at a great level this season, taking the Philadelphia 76ers to compete for the top spots in the Western Conference, showing that he’s ready to take his game to the next level. He’s even ranked right behind Nikola Jokic in the recent NBA.com’s MVP ladder, which shows that this man is on a mission this season.

Still, it seems like media members have no love for the talented big man, as he was snubbed from the Eastern Conference starters. On Thursday night, the captains and starters of both conferences were revealed, with Embiid’s name absent from the list.

Nikola Jokic Shows Big Support To Joel Embiid After All-Star Starters Snub

Everybody was shocked by this, including Jokic, who revealed he couldn’t believe it, making it clear that Embiid is well-deserving of a starting spot in the 2023 All-Star Game (via Mike Singer).

Nikola Jokic said he was surprised Joel Embiid wasn’t named an All-Star starter: “He deserves it.”

Last year, Embiid was named a starter, and he played for Team Durant, which would eventually succumb against Team LeBron in a very entertaining game. This season, the situation for Embiid and the rest of the players are different, as captains from both teams will select their players right before tip-off like they used to do at the park.

Joel was mentioned by fans as the player that deserved a spot the most among the reserves. He’s an MVP candidate and somebody who keeps showing his quality every day with the Sixers. This is something odd, as Embiid is one of the best players in the entire NBA, with a great 2022-23 season, and it was inconceivable that he would be left out of the All-Star starters.
