Cam Whitmore was the last Rockets player before Kevin Durant who wore the number seven jersey. Just days after Durant was traded to the Rockets, Whitmore’s time in Houston came to an end as he was traded to the Wizards for two second-round picks.

Now, in a recent interview with NBA Insider Scoop B. Robinson, Cam Whitmore had a very audacious take on Kevin Durant. When asked about what he felt about Durant’s move to the Rockets, Whitmore admitted he has that fixture circled on his calendar, seemingly to prove a point regarding the chip on his shoulder.

“I mean, Kevin Durant’s a fit, but at the end of the day, that calendar is marked when the day comes, and so it’s gonna be a good game!”

The third-year player is, in a way, challenging the two-time Finals MVP that he will show him what he feels about him on the court when the two teams face off during the regular season.

The former No. 20 overall pick from the 2023 NBA draft averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in the last two seasons for the Rockets. Meanwhile, Durant averaged 26.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists for the Suns in that duration.

A very audacious claim from the 21-year-old who hasn’t even spent a season as a starter on a team, let alone accomplish what Durant has in his career.

This claim did not sit well with fans as some could not understand what he was trying to say, but those who did felt he was being overconfident about his abilities. They took to social media and expressed their opinion on Whitmore’s claim.

“Cam Whitmore is trying to get his revenge against KD.”

“Bro is going to take shots away from Sarr, and Washington will lose by 25+.”

“Rockets winning by 30.”

“Buddy is counting down the days of another DNP lmaooo how’re you so a** gang.”

“Lmaoooo, he tryna gas the match up. The Wizards are losing by 30 pts.”

“Just for KD to give bro 30.”

“Oh no, the 3-17 wizards are coming to town.”

Several such reactions flooded the comments section of the post, as most fans seemed skeptical of Cam Whitmore’s take. He seems to be resonating with Jalen Green, who earlier this summer also claimed that he would show no mercy to the Rockets when he faces them in the regular season and promised to ‘bust their a**’ in the process.

As the Rockets and the Wizards are in separate conferences, they will only face each other twice next season. Those two games will be must-watch basketball now that Whitmore has raised the stakes so high for himself. We may see a career high from Whitmore, but let’s be honest, the Rockets are the clear favorites in that series.
