LeBron James got personal during an emotional moment on his wife Savannah’s ‘Everybody’s Crazy’ podcast. Reflecting on his childhood and what drives him today, the Lakers star opened up about his fear of being alone and his determination to protect the people closest to him.
“I don’t want to be alone, that’s for damn sure,” LeBron said. “If I got to fight, crawl, scratch, bite, whatever to keep mine, I’ve got to keep it. I’m an only child, single-parent household. Next time I’m alone, it would be underneath.”
Even the most successful people fear being alone. For LeBron James (four-time champion, four-time MVP), a very particular upbringing gave him first-hand experience with solitude and now that he’s got a taste of the family life, he never wants to let it go.
“Having a baby at a young age and us moving in together was different for me,” LeBron said. “My wife comes from a two-parent household and siblings in the house. I don’t come from that. It was my mom and my uncles and my friends just coming in and out. So, me settling down, giving her the key or the garage door code, that was different, bro.”
LeBron’s NBA journey is pretty well documented. Before he was ever making millions in the NBA, he was just a humble kid from Akron, Ohio, with hardly any money to his name. He grew up in poverty with just himself and his mother, Gloria, until he met Savannah in high school. A mutual friend brought them together and then they hit it off after he invited her to one of his games.
They had their first child, Bronny, in 2004 before having Bryce three years later. They finally got married in 2013, just one year before the birth of their daughter, Zhuri. It’s been one big happy family ever since, with LeBron and Savannah setting an example for celebrity couples everywhere.
Unlike so many NBA player relationships today, there are no signs of toxicity or strife between husband and wife. On all accounts, LeBron and Savannah are on the same page, and they always have been. While their marriage is far from perfect, James says that a mix of compromise and communication has helped them overcome challenges.
Of course, nobody knows what will happen in the future but LeBron James is a fighter and he will always fight to keep his family together. Whether it’s working through any issues with Savannah or rigging the league to play with his sons, James will prioritize his people and ensure he’s surrounded by those he cares about after years of living in near isolation.
Going into his 23rd NBA season, the end is near for James’ basketball career but he’ll have plenty of support when it’s time to step away. Whatever comes next, James will be keeping his family involved in everything he does just like he’s been doing with Savannah all of these years.
LeBron’s openness on ‘Everybody’s Crazy’ shows that beneath all the accolades, he’s still grounded in what matters most: love, loyalty, and legacy. He’s built a life that looks nothing like the one he came from, and that’s something he refuses to take for granted.
