NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has made a lot of changes to the NBA schedule, but the biggest change of all is yet to come. For months now, the idea of a mid-season tournament has been floated as a potential addition to the NBA season, but it’s set to become official after the latest CBA takes effect.

In a report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, he provided some details on the event, which will take place in Las Vegas for two days in December.

“ESPN Sources: The NBA’s new In-Season Tournament Final Four is set for December 7 and 9 in Las Vegas. Statistics will count for the league’s regular season, except for the championship game of the event.”

The reception from the community has been lukewarm so far, with many fans still confused as to why such a tournament is even necessary at all. Besides bringing the NBA to Las Vegas every year, the event will also add high-stakes competition to the regular season.

All-in-all, the NBA hopes that this latest addition to the schedule will help increase the fan experience, much like the play-in tournament aimed to improve the quality of the playoff race in the East and West.

What Is The Prize For Mid-Season Tournament Winner?

The biggest problem with this in-season tournament is that players have very little incentive to participate. With no real championship on the line, the only thing the players can play for is extra money, but the winnings aren’t really all that much anyway.

“What happened to the 1mm they said when this idea was first introduced?” said Draymond Green. “Sheesh we lost 500k there too!”

As the league prepares to add this schedule change, the entire basketball world will be watching to see how it plays out. If the condition are right, it could make for a fantastic event.

But if the players decide not to put forth the proper effort, then fans are going to be disappointed with the product. Either way, the NBA is rolling with this, and there’s no going back on it now.
