Even after retiring from the NBA, Paul Pierce has made sure to share his views on the league through podcasts.

The Boston Celtics legend recently talked about how the modern-day NBA lacks true competitors. He went on to say that there are only five true competitors in the NBA right now. Spoiler alert: LeBron James and Stephen Curry aren’t on Pierce’s list.

“Y’all watch the NBA. I can only name five players that I feel are competitive in the league. Giannis, Draymond, Westbrook, Patrick Beverley, Ja Morant,” Pierce said. “When I look and say you’re a dog, it looks like you ain’t got no friends out there. You ain’t smiling at nobody, you ain’t dappin’ cats. KG was a dog.”

Paul Pierce was majorly active during the 2010s, and in that era, there were still players who were incredibly competitive. As Pierce said, Kevin Garnett was one of them.

But even in the modern-day NBA, apart from the five players that Pierce named, the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant are incredibly competitive.

Moreover, showing respect to another player in the league doesn’t mean they aren’t competitive. Pierce is certainly wrong in this aspect.

Paul Pierce Wants NBA Legends To Connect With Modern-Day Superstars

There is always a disconnect between former NBA stars and current players in the league over how the game of basketball should be played.

Oftentimes, it leads to feuds between the two generations. But Paul Pierce believes instead of fighting with each other, NBA legends should try to form a connection with the current superstars.

“I think, being that I was on the Celtics for so long, I feel like it’s my duty to come back and give the game to the YGs,” Pierce said. “Because they want us there. They want us to be present. They feel a certain sense of energy because [Boston’s] a traditional franchise where players are up in the rafters. We gotta be the next generation to pass it down to the young guys. And we don’t see that enough.”

Pierce essentially meant this as a solution for the Boston Celtics franchise. But this practice can be approached by every organization in the league to form a better connection between the two generations.
