Over the last few years, fans have noticed hatred brewing between former NBA players and modern-day players for a plethora of reasons. Be it the difference of opinion, load management, or simply the disparity in pay scale between different generations.

However, that doesn’t mean every former NBA star hates modern-day superstars. Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce recently talked about the importance of connecting with the new generation of players from the older generation in a recent episode of the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast.

“I think, being that I was on the Celtics for so long, I feel like it’s my duty to come back and give the game to the YGs,” Pierce said. “Because when I was there, I was constantly seeing Bill Russell and Jo Jo White, and Robert Parish would come to the games. There would be times when I’d go to dinner with them, and I just feel like it’s our duty to come back and just interact with the young guys.”

Pierce then continued to talk about how the Boston Celtics are a traditional franchise and how current stars legitimately want to connect with the legends of the team.

“Because they want us there. They want us to be present. They feel a certain sense of energy because [Boston’s] a traditional franchise where players are up in the rafters. We gotta be the next generation to pass it down to the young guys. And we don’t see that enough.”

It’s great to see a legend like Pierce come out and admit the importance of imparting the knowledge he gained during his time in the league to the younger generation of the Celtics superstars.

If legends of every franchise can learn this approach, the level of hatred between the OGs and the YGs will undoubtedly reduce. As of now, we are far from seeing that happen, but who knows what the future has on hold for us?

Paul Pierce And Kevin Garnett Recently Met With Stars Of The Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are undoubtedly a legendary franchise, but it has been well over a decade since they last won the NBA Championship. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were the core of the 2008 title-winning team. So, the two legends know a thing or two about helping the core of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart.

Pierce and KG attempted to do so when they recently visited the Celtics’ trio and had some valuable interactions with them.

For someone like Pierce, who hated the Celtics growing up, it’s great to see him taking so many steps toward the betterment of the franchise even after retirement.

Hopefully, Pierce and Garnett’s advice will help the Celtics cross the final hurdle and bring championship number 18 to the team.
