When it comes to being successful in the league, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics are undoubtedly the two greatest teams in the history of the league. But reaching this legendary status would have never been possible without the presence of some amazing players donning the jersey of either team.
For the Boston Celtics, Paul Pierce is unarguably that guy. He spent the majority of his career with the Celtics and even won an NBA Championship while donning the Celtics jersey.
Keeping that in mind, Pierce is usually regarded as a legend of the organization. But what if we told you that Pierce actually hated the Celtics before getting drafted by the team using the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft?
Paul Pierce On Why He Hated The Boston Celtics
Ever since retiring from the NBA, Pierce has given several exciting interviews and revealed a plethora of things about himself. He even revealed that he hated the Celtics in an episode of the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast and was instead a Lakers fan while growing up.

“I wore a Lakers sweater. I’ll show y’all pictures, I got a Lakers sweater I used to wear every day to school. I mean who cannot be a Laker fan. I grew up right down the street from The Forum. Right there in Inglewood watching Magic. I hated the Celtics. … So that’s what makes it real iconic when I get drafted to the Celtics and I didn’t even work out for the Celtics.”
Considering Pierce grew up in L.A., there was no way he could have ever imagined being drafted by the Boston Celtics. But life had other plans for him and for what it’s worth, he did one hell of a job to make sure he kept his hatred for the Celtics shoved deep inside him.
