Journalist Taylor Rooks is a self-confessed Luka Doncic fan, and she has her reasons for picking the Dallas Mavericks superstar as one of her favorite players.
“I’m a big Luka fan,” she said in a sitdown with Interview. “The way he plays the game is so innovative. Obviously, the Mavs need to figure it out. Everything isn’t working.”
The broadcaster isn’t wrong by any means. Despite Doncic’s stellar season, the Mavericks finished 12th in the West and bowed out of the playoffs race. Adding Kyrie Irving did little to help them, as the team slumped 7-18 in their final stretch of games.
Irving and Doncic were the superstar duo who were destined to take Dallas the distance and were supposed to be the superteam the side was lacking all along. Rooks added that she was a huge fan of the superteam concept, and believed it was the right move for teams looking for a title.
“I’m big on super teams. I know people feel very weird about that. But I think that if you’re playing this game to win a ring, you do what you can win that ring.”
On the season front, Dallas is already putting their off-season plans into motion. They have maintained that re-signing Irving during the summer is their top priority, and they will also have to retool their roster to add more depth and firepower to assist their superstar duo.
Who Is Taylor Rooks?
Rooks, a Missouri native majored in Broadcast journalism at the University of Illinois. The sportscaster became a household name as a correspondent at SportsNet New York.
The 30-year-old also had stints with SNY, CBS, and BTN. Currently, she appears on Thursday Night Football, Bleacher Report, and Turner Sports.
Most notably Rooks garnered immense fame for her sitdown with Draymond Green after his punch-up furor with Jordan Poole, and Ja Morant, who discussed his mental health struggles with her after he was suspended for brandishing a firearm at a club.
Her ability to get the most out of high-profile athletes saw her gain praise. As per the outlet, she explained how she was able to get the stars to talk. “I understand I cover sports, but above all else I cover people,” she added. “If you’re going to sit down for my show, it’s not like a post-game presser. You’re really going to have to talk.”
Quite simply, Rooks is one of the perfect examples of a journalist who remains objective but also understands the human sentiment. Safe to say, the good quality will see her cement herself as one of the more prominent media faces in the days to come.
