The Superteam That Would Beat Scottie Pippen’s All-Time Team In A 7-Game Series

Hall of Famer and 6-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen recently selected his all-time starting five that features an impressive selection of NBA superstars. Of course, the backcourt features the two greatest at their position with Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. Also unsurprisingly, Pippen selected himself over other small forwards including Larry Bird and LeBron James.

In the frontcourt, Pippen surprisingly selects Giannis Antetokounmpo and Shaquille O’Neal to complete a dominant inside and outside team. Pippen is seemingly going for a physically dominant lineup that will also be almost impossible to score freely against. When looking at Pippen’s team from top to bottom, they hardly have significant weaknesses.

But there could be a superteam that has a shot against Pippen’s superteam, and it might have to fight fire with fire to win against them in a 7-game series.

Here is the superteam that can defeat Scottie Pippen’s all-time squad in 7 games.

Stephen Curry vs. Magic Johnson

Steph Curry is the greatest shooter ever and will need to use his offensive abilities to bring it to Magic Johnson, a player who will aim to get others involved. A quicker point guard with elite shooting, Curry will be a load to handle for Team Pippen.

Meanwhile, Magic makes his teammates better on the court by creating easy looks for them. On the fast break, Magic will also be unstoppable and will put early pressure on Team FW to try to cut off the legendary point guard before he can run.

Kobe Bryant vs. Michael Jordan

Kobe Bryant is the only man in NBA history who can stand toe-to-toe with Michael Jordan and not get blown away in terms of skill and competitiveness. Bryant will mimic what Jordan will do in the series, although he will bring a fair share of positives and negatives in that regard.

Michael will relish the opportunity to take on an aggressive Kobe Bryant, and will often have magical moments going one-on-one against each other. Jordan is the original, and Bryant is the Version 2.0. That means there will be some iconic games between them both.

LeBron James vs. Scottie Pippen

The King, LeBron James, will have to accept a “Magic Johnson” role with Team FW because he is the only true playmaker on the squad. Considering how unselfish James is on the court, he will embrace that role and be one of the most impactful players in the series.

Scottie Pippen chose himself, mainly because he has the perfect mix of skills to be a playmaker, scorer, and defensive wing. Pippen will have his hands full with James and will do his best in trying to stop The King from taking over games in the series. James is a more talented player, certainly, but Pippen will hold his own – especially on defense.

Kevin Durant vs. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Kevin Durant will be on the team for one reason: space the floor. Durant is the best possible floor-spacer alongside 4 superstar players because he can knock down shots from anywhere and also allow Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon to operate down low against a slower Shaquille O’Neal.

Meanwhile, Giannis will be tasked with attacking the slender Kevin Durant on almost any occasion. The power forward is extremely athletic and powerful in build, so KD will have issues at times throughout the season. Giannis’ partnership with Shaq will also be exhausting to handle on defense.

Hakeem Olajuwon vs. Shaquille O’Neal

Hakeem is probably the only man in NBA history to take the game to Shaquille O’Neal and come out on top. Olajuwon is a more skilled post player and is far quicker than Shaq, and will have a field day when he is in a position to use his smarts.

Shaq is the most physically dominant player in the series and will have some big games throughout the series – especially in Game 1. O’Neal understands he has other superstar players by his side, but he will still force his teammates to feed him the ball as much as possible.

Team Fadeaway World Advantages

Team FW have elite floor-spacing. Curry and Durant are the two best shooters in the series, and they are bolstered by the playmaking of LeBron James and the unstoppable scoring ability of Kobe Bryant. Of course, Dream controls the paint as much as possible.

But Team FW’s balance will be beautiful to watch. They can have 4 guys on the perimeter while Dream operates down low. When James wants to drive, Hakeem is capable of spotting up from mid-range and give space to The King.

Team Pippen Advantages

Team Pippen’s defense will be stifling at times. Pippen, Jordan, and Giannis will be impossible to score against at moments throughout the series, greatly giving the team chances to build big leads and eventually win games.

They also have Michael Jordan, the greatest competitor in basketball history. Beside him is Magic Johnson, the greatest floor general, and leader ever. Together, they will be tough to beat especially when bolstered by the presence of two dominant bigs in Giannis and Shaq.

Who Wins A Best-Of-7 Series?

Game 1 goes to Team Pippen, mainly because the bigs eat. Shaq drops 37 points and Giannis adds a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds. Together, Shaq and Giannis eat down low and there is not much Team FW can do – especially when shots aren’t falling. In a lopsided game, Team Pippen wins 112-87.

But Team FW respond in Game 2, thanks to the brilliance of their shooters. Kobe, Durant, and Curry combine for 10 three-pointers made and also take it to the opposition with their offensive explosions. The first half ends 65-60, but the end of the third ends 99-87. With a big lead, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant do not let the opposition get back into the game and win 120-111.

Game 3 happens to come down to a game-winner, and that comes courtesy of Michael Jordan. The GOAT scores a game-high 40 points, including a buzzer-beater over a double-team of Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry. With Kobe and MJ going back and forth in the 4th quarter, Michael nails a buzzer-beater to seal the game and earn a 2-1 series lead.

As expected, Team FW respond in Game 4. Hakeem Olajuwon scores inside very well, mainly taking Shaq to task and forcing him to foul. With O’Neal’s aggressiveness slightly diminished by foul trouble, Hakeem goes off for a 22-point second half and Kobe manages to score a game-high 31 points in a game that ends 114-110 in Team FW’s favor.

LeBron James and Stephen Curry put up a virtuoso in Game high, as James finishes with a tremendous triple-double (35 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists) while Curry nails an incredible 7 three-pointers. Together, they take the beating to Team Pippen who only find offense through Magic (23 points, 16 assists) and Michael Jordan (33 points). But Team FW fire on all cylinders, ending the game with a 10-2 run.

Magic Johnson puts on a show in Game 6, running the break and finding Shaq for multiple easy plays with the center trailing. He also scores his playoff-high 30 points, taking Steph Curry down low for easy buckets and also kicking out to his shooters. Not to mention, Magic feeds Giannis with lob after lob. Adding in a clutch jumper by MJ with a minute left to put Team Pippen up 6, a Game 7 is forced.

Game 7 goes to 2 overtimes, mainly because Kobe Bryant nails a game-tying three at the end of regulation and Kevin Durant does the same at the end of the first OT. Jordan finishes with a game-high 42 points, but he has to face constant double-teams by Team FW. Unfortunately for Jordan, his teammates cannot find the range. Magic, Pippen, and Giannis combine for 1-10 from three, while Shaq gets outplayed by a versatile Olajuwon. In the 2OT, James and Bryant combine for 8 points and a fallaway jumper by Bryant over Magic seals a 111-109 victory after a late Giannis lob barely rims out at the buzzer.
