The NBA title is the prize that the Lakers, Nuggets, Celtics, and Heat are fighting over, but 14 teams in the NBA were waiting for the prize, which was Victor Wembanyama tonight.

The San Antonio Spurs won the draft lottery and will presumably select the generational prospect Victor Wembanyama with the pick and return to contention. Wemby seemed really happy to go to San Antonio, saying that it was a good day on Twitter.

Wembanyama can possibly be the third No. 1 pick in Spurs’ history, with the other two being David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Given the championship pedigree of this franchise, Wembanyama will be expected to step into the role of those legends if he gets drafted by the Spurs. The Fadeaway World mock draft has Wemby going to San Antonio.

Victor Wembanyama Seems Thrilled To Go To San Antonio

Wembanyama was interviewed after the lottery and openly said that the entirety of France was rooting for the Spurs to get the pick.

“There’s a special relation between France and the Spurs because of Tony (Parker) and also Boris (Diaw). I know half of the country, if not the whole country wanted the Spurs to have the first pick.”

Tony Parker is the greatest point guard in the history of the Spurs’ franchise and a former Finals MVP with the franchise, so naturally, there are people rooting for the franchise in France. All eyes will be on Wembanyama now, the latest foreign superstar entering the league and possibly playing under Gregg Popovich and the Spurs.

Nothing is set in stone until June 22, 2023, when the Draft will take place. But for now, Wembanyama to the Spurs seems like the likeliest outcome.
