The Los Angeles Lakers looked to be getting blown out of Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets but a second-half comeback mitigated the damage to a six-point loss.

Darvin Ham was seemingly encouraged by what his team did in the second half despite the Game 1 loss, telling journalists that he isn’t worried right now and that the team will be better in Game 2.

“We woke up and I think we started digging in and playing with a little bit more urgency. There’s no doubt in my mind that when we come out for Game 2, we’ll be ready. We’ll go back and do what we need to do to get the team right physically, start the recovery process now, break down the film, and watch what we need to watch. Thank God it’s a best-of-seven and not the NCAA tournament. It’s first to four. We’ll be okay. Trust me.”

The Lakers started the game out slow but became a force to be reckoned with later in the game. The Nuggets didn’t have an answer for Anthony Davis after his 40-point, 10-rebound showing on the night. LeBron James was having a good game until some crucial mistakes in the fourth quarter meant that the Lakers’ comeback wouldn’t be complete. Game 2 is a must-win for LA if they want to take this series back home with a homecourt advantage.

An Away Win Clinches The Series?

Both the Nuggets and Lakers have been undefeated at home through the first two rounds of the playoffs, a streak the Nuggets continued with their home win over the Lakers tonight. Given how strong both teams are at their home, picking up a road win could be the deciding factor, especially for the Lakers in this series.

The Lakers have picked up at least one win in their first two games through the first two rounds and will look to continue it in Game 2. They almost pulled it off tonight but some bad plays down the stretch and a bad defensive performance from the best defensive team in the playoffs let them down.
