Stephen Jackson was one of the former players who shared his take on Russell Westbrook’s shocking contract details with the LA Clippers, who signed the explosive guard for a two-year $8 million contract.

“Guys like Russ give a 110% every night. The triple-double king. Plays and just gives his all every night for the fans, and for his team, and he loves the game. You pay him $8,000,000?! That’s crazy. I ain’t hating on nobody getting that money, y’all get y’all, bread bro. But it’s a lot of people that are getting $100 million that don’t care about the game like Russ, don’t play when they hurt like Russ, don’t give a 110% every night like Russ.”

The deal was confirmed earlier this month and was reported by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Coming back to Jackson’s rant, it’s understandable how a player was paid a total of $47 million in the 2022-23 season, and the latest number is practically crumbs. Perhaps it was his run with the Los Angeles Lakers that saw his contract numbers dwindle.

Westbrook was the lone bright spot for the Clippers after being bought out by the Utah Jazz after a midseason trade last year. He started the last 21 games for the side and was instrumental in their five playoff games against the Phoenix Suns.

Westbrook averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.6 assists for the Clippers and 15.9 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 7.5 APG overall for the season.

Thomas Bryant Gets Real On His Former Teammate Russell Westbrook

Lavishing praise on Russell Westbrook was his former Lakers teammate Thomas Bryant who revealed what it was like working with the former MVP.

“He’s one of the most brilliant, accepting guys that I’ve ever played with. Always had the best attitude you could ever think of… With Russ, he’s always coming in with a great attitude, and he’s always there for you. He’s always looking out for guys, talking to them. He’s trying to make the game so much easier for everyone.”

Going by Bryant’s words, and the new contract, there’s no denying that Westbrook is okay to overlook the paltry contract. The idea is to go out by winning a championship, and he’s proved that he’s still got the game and the skills for it. It remains to be seen if his sacrifice is worth it.
