Zion Williamson is considered to be one of the top prospects for the 2019 NBA Draft with multiple franchises after the young athlete.
However, some people may not know that Zion will be the second heaviest player in the NBA league behind Boban Marjanovic of the Los Angeles Clippers. Boban currently weighs 290 lbs and is a very tall 7 foot 3, Zion is 5 lbs lighter than Boban, currently at 285 lbs at 6 foot 6 with a 45-inch vertical.
It’s quite interesting considering the massive height difference between the two and the fact that there will be a lot more power forwards and centers that would be much taller than Zion.
At just 18, Zion can use his massive frame to take it to the basket and dunk over any opponents that he has come across so far at the College level. Obviously, it’s a big step up from college to the NBA but Zion is certainly well built to become an elite rookie in the league if he can manage his weight well.
Many have compared his body shape to LeBron James who is also very well built and was believed to come close to 280 pounds during his time in Miami before he returned home to Cleveland.
Some believe that it’s important for Zion’s basketball career that he slims down just a little bit while he is playing for Duke. Teams will be looking at things such as his body fat percentage while they prepare for the draft.
If Zion Williamson can manage his weight well enough and be able to translate his dominance in the paint in High School and College matches to the NBA, then we may be about to witness a new star being born.
