Damian Lillard On Paul George Saying He Wants To Retire A Clipper: “Al Capone”

NBA rivalries nowadays aren’t nearly as intense as they used to be, but they can still be quite fun. For basketball stars Damian Lillard and Paul George, they have one that continues to entertain — even in the offseason.

Recently, PG re-affirmed his loyalty to the Clippers, telling the world on the “All The Smoke” podcast that he wanted to retire with the franchise.

Since George said similar statements before his departure from Indiana and then OKC, many were taking those words with a grain of salt, including his Western Conference rival, Damian Lillard.

The reference can be a bit confusing at first, but it’s just a play on words by Dame, who is actually calling PG’s words cap — Al(l) (Cap)one.

As the epitome of player loyalty, Damian Lillard has been a Blazer since he was drafted in 2012. With hardly any complaints, Dame has been leading them through an inspiring and respectable era. And, despite not having won a Championship in one of the league’s smaller markets, he hasn’t yet demanded a trade.

Contrast that with George, who is now on his third team, and it’s clear the two players have taken different roads for their careers.

As for whether or not we can expect PG to hold up on his commitment this time, it’s too early to say. But he can’t exactly blame folks for not taking much stock in it, especially not when players like Damian Lillard exist.
