LeBron James: “Nobody’s Gonna Average 50 In Our League. That’s Just Disrespectful.”

In LeBron James’ first public sit-down since winning the Championship this fall, he made an appearance on the “Road Trippin'” podcast to talk about all kinds of stuff.

Among many nuggets of content, perhaps one of the most interesting segments by James was in a conversation about scoring potential in the NBA. Speaking quite firmly, the Lakers star denied anybody was capable of averaging 50.

LeBron – “There’s nobody that’s going to average 50 in our league…that’s just disrespectful.”

The highest LeBron ever averaged was 30 points per game in the ’07-’08 season. And while many players have surpassed that mark (Harden in2019, Kobe in 2006) none in modern basketball history have touched the 50 mark.

To find a player who has averaged at least 50 points in a season, you have to go way back to the 1961-1962 season, when Wilt Chamberlain ended his campaign with an average of 50.4 points per game.

That lone season by Wilt is the only time in history a player averaged that many points in a season, and LeBron is probably right in saying that could never happen again.

Despite the fast-paced, offense-heavy style we’re used to seeing today, the league has become too good to allow that sort of dominance by a single player. If it was possible, it probably would have already been done.

Besides, as LeBron said, it’s just straight-up disrespectful.
